No place in London is as synonymous with glamor and tradition as The Dorchester. The famous Park Lane hotel remains unrivaled in its enduring opulence despite London being home to more five-star hotels than any other city in the world. Despite successive trends over the Dorchester’s 90-year history, its gilded Louis XIV furnishings and sparkling chandeliers remain supreme.
The hotel will auction off its treasures for the first time ever and showcase quality furnishings, fixtures and fittings, artwork and draperies from the 250-room luxury property, exuding opulence through its traditional English decoration, as well as the contents of the bar and promenade designed by renowned architect and designer Thierry Despont.
From the finest cocktail cabinets to the most elegant chests of drawers, angelic accents and armchairs, bespoke mirrors, each with a story to ponder, dining rooms and period desks, you will find an impressive array of expertise. There is the most regal of rugs, sumptuous sofas and all sorts of bespoke bedroom accessories and accessories offering a feast for the senses.
With a history dating back to 1931, The Dorchester has always made a positive impression on royalty, A-list celebrities and those who enjoy the finer things in life. It will be the largest large-scale refurbishment at The Dorchester since 1989 and will begin with the hotel entrance, promenade and bar at The Dorchester, as well as two guest floors, with the work due to be completed by September 2022.
The Dorchester remains open throughout the refurbishment, with afternoon tea served in the spectacular Orchid Room and a Mediterranean concept for The Dorchester Rooftop throughout the summer. The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang all remain open as normal, as do the Dorchester Spa, the hotel’s ballroom, the Penthouse & Pavilion and the Chef’s Table.
Simon Rose of Pro Auction said: “This major hotel refurbishment project offers the opportunity to buy a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as the owners pave the way for a new chapter for The Dorchester. .”
