Active investigation underway at the Windsor Hotel

Windsor, Ont. –

Windsor police along with the forensic unit were at the scene of a gunshot investigation at the Lexington Hotel.

Staff Sergeant Dave Tennent told CTV News the incident was reported just after midnight on Sunday morning.

Tennent says the Major Crimes Unit is in the early stages of the investigation, noting that police believe there is no threat to the public.

A visitor from Toronto was staying at a nearby motel on Saturday night when he heard a loud noise around midnight.

“I was in my room last night sleeping and heard four gunshots,” the man told CTV News, it was scary, but he could tell from the sound that it happened across the street. “It was boom, boom, boom, then one more, boom!”

He says he’s not sure what happened, but investigators have asked for the security camera footage from the motel.

“I woke up this morning and saw that everything was recorded, that’s all,” he adds, “Nobody knows what happened.”

Investigators were surveying neighbors along Byng Road, which connects Division Road to Moxlay Avenue.

No further details are shared at this time, with police saying further information is expected to be released on Monday.
