Berkshire properties owned by the Queen, including a hotel and gardens in Windsor
The Crown Estate owns land across the UK, including properties in Berkshire.
While you might guess the Crown Estate owns Windsor Castle and Frogmore Cottage, it actually owns other assets in Berkshire that you may not be aware of.
The Crown Estate is a collection of lands and properties that technically belong to the British monarch.

It is the sovereign’s public domain and is neither government property nor part of the monarch’s private domain.
The Queen does, however, have a portfolio of private estates, and that includes Sandringham and Balmoral.
Overall, the Crown Estate has an extensive land portfolio, which includes the entirety of Regent Street and 14 retail parks.

You might also be surprised to learn that the Crown Estate doesn’t actually own Windsor Castle, but does own some of the land nearby.
What you also might not know is that the Crown Estate also has a hotel and gardens in Windsor.

- Frogmore Cottage
- Ye Harte and Garter Hotel and Spa
- Savill’s garden and building in Windsor Great Park
The Crown Estate bought the Ye Harte and Garter hotel in 2007 for £26million.
It was a joint venture controlled by Central Investment Properties of Emma & Lewis Davis.
The Crown Estate also owns the Savill Garden building in Windsor Great Park.
The Queen planted a rose garden there in 2010.
The Crown Estate is one of the UK’s largest property managers with its portfolio of properties valued at around £14.1 billion.
