âAs expected, we are delighted to finally reopen our doors after five years and bring exciting new gaming and entertainment experiences to the wonderful people of Puerto Rico and visitors from afar,â said Stuart IC Levene, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Foxwoods. Casino El San Juan.
Governor Pierluisi cut the ribbon during the opening ceremony alongside Caroline Mayor José Carlos Aponte Dalmau, members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Tribal Council of Connecticut and Jason Guyot, President and CEO of Foxwoods.
The Mashantucket Pequot tribe owns the Foxwoods Resort and Casino, the largest resort casino in North America. It is one of the largest contributors to Connecticut’s income, not to mention the largest employer. Rodney Butler, president of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation since January 2010, expressed his enthusiasm for expanding their experience in Puerto Rico.
âToday is a milestone for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation as we expand the Foxwoods Resort Casino brand – for the first time – to the Caribbean. We are honored to bring real economic and tourism value to the region, including an estimated economic impact of $ 22 million, with the launch of Foxwoods El San Juan Casino and to remain a committed partner as we help build a bright future for the island. We thank our partners at LionGrove and Fairmont El San Juan for making this possible, âsaid Butler.
Designed by legendary Miami Beach architect Morris Lapidus, the El San Juan Hotel has been welcoming locals and tourists since February 1, 1958. Throughout the 1960s, Puerto Rico became a beacon for American tourists and artists alike, and the Hotel El San Juan has become the grand dame of authentic Puerto Rican hospitality and entertainment. For the hotel’s first three decades, internationally renowned headliners have performed on its stage every week, including Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Carol Channing and Liza Minelli, among other icons of the time. Fast forward to today, and Hotel El San Juan remains a timeless Puerto Rican icon, seamlessly blending the best elements of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
This reopening of the casino is the final touch of the Foxwoods El San Juan hotel. The casino has been completely renovated for its reopening, keeping the classic European style that has defined the hotel for decades. Plush rugs line the floors, rich woodwork adorns the ceilings, and crystal chandeliers abound to enhance the casino guest experience.
âThis property has been emblematic of Puerto Rico and therefore our intention was to maintain the rich history of the place, and we truly believe that the new identity of the casino beautifully pays homage to the legendary history of the casino. Today marks the start of an iconic new chapter for gaming innovation in Puerto Rico, and we are delighted that everyone has had the opportunity to experience the revitalized Foxwoods El San Juan Casino firsthand, âadded Levene.
