Old-Hollywood glamor arrives in Cork at Imperial Hotel’s new Sketch Cocktail Bar

The Imperial Hotel in Cork has launched a new, retro-themed cocktail bar on the city’s South Mall – its third bar / restaurant opened in recent times.

Sketch now sits on Pembroke Street, one of the streets that has become a permanent pedestrian outdoor food court, joining Thyme at Seventy-Six on the Mall and Lafayette’s.

“We are really excited to share Sketch with the people of Cork and our hotel guests, and are very proud of our focus on local and sustainability,” Managing Director Bastien Peyraud said in a press release.

“I predict it will be a fantastic melting pot of people, style, music, great food and drink.”

The cocktails offered include the house specialty “Sketch Garden”; a cocktail made with Maharani Gin, Poachers tonic, lime, pear and mint; and “The Princess Grace”, made with Ketel One vodka, strawberries, Triple Sec, champagne and syrup topped with prosecco.

Smoky cocktails and customizable espresso martinis are also on the drink menu, while alcohol-free sparkling pear kombucha alongside a unique ‘invisible’ cocktail that costs Cork Simon a € 5 donation.

Birdcage shareable snack platters are available, including Seachuterie, Charcuterie, Cheesy, Meaty, and Vegan themed dishes, with ingredients sourced from the nearby English Market.

Artist Ethan Desmond oversaw the interior aesthetic, inspired by old Hollywood glamor, and featuring sketches of iconic Cork locations.

The Imperial Hotel occupies a unique place in Leeside’s history as the city’s very first hotel – referring to itself as the ‘Grand Lady’ of Cork.

Over the years, the hotel’s historic value has grown from hosting anti-slavery activist Frederick Douglass on his lecture tour of Ireland to one of the very first LGBT-friendly mainstream social spaces.
